Qada and Qadar

6. Belief in Qada and Qadar (Divine Decree)

1. Believing in Qada and Qadar means having complete faith that everything that happens in this universe has already been decreed by Allah. This includes both good and bad things, all of which were predetermined long before they happened.

2. The word Qada means a decision or decree, while Qadar refers to the measure or proportion. In the context of faith, Qada is Allah’s final decision, and Qadar is the detailed unfolding of that decision.

3. Allah has complete and perfect knowledge. He knows everything that has happened, is happening now, and will happen in the future. Nothing escapes His knowledge—not even what’s hidden in our hearts.

4. Belief in Qada and Qadar involves four levels. The first is Allah’s knowledge, meaning He already knows everything from beginning to end. This is the foundation of believing in divine destiny.

5. The second level is recording. Allah has written everything in a preserved record called the Lauh Mahfuzh. Every detail is there—our lifespan, our sustenance, our actions—all already written down.

6. The third level is Allah’s will and permission. Nothing happens without His approval and will. Even though people make choices and work hard, the final outcome is always in Allah’s control.

7. The fourth level is creation. Allah created everything, including human actions. But this doesn’t mean people don’t have free will—it just means Allah created the ability for humans to choose.

8. Belief in Qada and Qadar doesn’t mean you sit back and do nothing. Islam teaches us to strive and work hard, then trust Allah with the results. People are still responsible for the choices they make.

9. For example, if someone wants to do well in school, they have to study hard. They can’t just say, “If I’m destined to fail, I’ll fail anyway,” and never open a book. That’s not how divine decree works.

10. In daily life, believing in destiny helps us stay patient during tough times and grateful during blessings. A believer knows that everything—good or bad—comes from Allah and carries a purpose.

11. This belief also brings peace of mind. Someone who trusts in divine decree won’t be easily stressed out or overly anxious. They know that what happened is meant to happen, and there’s wisdom in it.

12. However, this doesn’t give anyone an excuse to sin. You can’t say, “I stole because it was my destiny.” Islam still holds each person accountable for their actions and choices.

13. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that everyone is created according to what they’re destined for—whether happiness or misery. But he also said that each person will be guided to what they choose. So yes, we do have responsibility.

14. Belief in Qada and Qadar also helps us trust that our sustenance, life partner, and time of death are all in Allah’s hands. So there’s no need to envy others or stress too much. Focus on your effort, and leave the rest to Him.

15. In conclusion, belief in divine destiny is one of the highest levels of trust in Allah. But it also calls us to action. Islam teaches a balance between effort and trust—we do our part, and we accept whatever outcome Allah has planned.
