π What is Wudu?
Wudu (ablution) is the act of purifying oneself from minor ritual impurity using water on specific body parts, as a requirement before performing prayer and certain acts of worship.
πΏ Intention (Niyyah) for Wudu
Ruling: Obligatory (Pillar of Wudu). The intention must be made in the heart at the same time as washing the face for the first time.
Translation: "I intend to perform wudu to remove minor impurity, as a fardh (obligation) for the sake of Allah."
β Step-by-Step Wudu According to Sunnah and Shafi'i School
- Say Bismillah: "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim"
- Wash both hands up to the wrists (3x)
- Rinse the mouth (madmadah) (3x)
- Sniff water into the nose (istinshaq) (3x)
- Blow water out of the nose (istinsar) (3x)
- Wash the face (from forehead to chin, and ear to ear)
- Wash both arms up to and including the elbows (right first)
- Wipe a portion of the head
- Wipe both ears (inner and outer)
- Wash both feet up to and including the ankles (right first)
- Follow the correct sequence (tartib)

π Sunnah Acts of Wudu
- Saying Bismillah
- Washing hands before starting
- Rinsing mouth and nose
- Wiping the entire head
- Wiping the ears
- Starting with the right side
- Rubbing while washing
- Washing between fingers and toes
- Using little water (not wasting)
- Facing the qiblah
- Remaining silent during wudu
- Repeating each wash 3 times
- Making du'a after finishing wudu
π€² Du'a After Wudu
Translation: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone without partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent often and among those who purify themselves."
β οΈ Things That Invalidate Wudu
- Anything that exits from the front or back private parts
- Losing consciousness (deep sleep, fainting, intoxication)
- Touching private parts with the bare palm
- Skin-to-skin contact between unrelated men and women (Shafi'i view)
- Touching the anus (some scholars' view)
π Important Notes
- Valid water for wudu: Pure and purifying (mutlaq water)
- Wudu is invalid if performed with:
- Used water (musta'mal)
- Impure (najis) water
- Water altered by other substances that change its nature
