Types of Water That Can Be Used for Wudu
✅ Types of Water That Can Be Used for Wudu
According to Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah, the only water that is valid and permissible for wudu is pure and purifying water—meaning water that is naturally clean and has not been mixed with any substances that alter its original color, taste, or smell.
✅ 1. Pure Water (Tahur Water – Pure and Purifying)
Definition: This is water in its original natural state that hasn’t been mixed with anything that changes its characteristics.
Examples:
- Rainwater
- Sea water
- River water
- Well water
- Snow
- Dew
- Spring water
- Tap water (if unchanged)
This type of water is valid for wudu.
🚫 2. Used Water (Used for Purification)
Definition: Water that has already been used to remove ritual impurity (like leftover water from wudu or ghusl). While it remains pure, it is not valid for another wudu.
🚫 3. Water Mixed with Pure Substances
Examples: Tea, coffee, rose water, or water mixed with soap, perfume, or other pure substances that change its taste, color, or smell.
➡️ This water is not valid for wudu because it is no longer pure water.
🚫 4. Contaminated Water (Najis Water)
Definition: Water that has come into contact with impurities (najis), especially if the quantity is less than two qullah (approx. 270 liters or 71 gallons), and its color, smell, or taste has changed.
➡️ This water is invalid for wudu.
✅ Conditions of Valid Water for Wudu
- It must be pure in itself
- It must be able to purify (remove hadath or najis)
- It must not have been used for purification before
